While you won't be using a pen plotter, it contains the lines, which can be manipulated-something you can't do with the other available formats. Tecplot and TP2 will create an HGL file, which is a pen plotter format. In order to work with a metafile, you would need something like Corel, as even Paint Shop only handles images and converts metafiles to images before doing anything with them. You can't work with a metafile with Excel or Word, but PowerPoint will do a very few things. Tecplot will produce a Raster Metafile, but these are not true metafiles and are similar to GIFs. There is more than one type of metafile, but the most common are only recognized by MS Office and useless for everything else. PNGs are also an option, but there are so many different types and you may not be able to control which you get. GIFs are the format of choice for charts and graphs, whether there is one frame or many, as it is lossless. JPEG is only suitable for photographs and should never be used for anything else, just as AVIs are only suitable for YouTube videos of cats. Also, never save a drawing as a JPEG, as this is a lossy format and does not preserve the detail (sharp lines and corners). The bitmap is just an image, while the metafile contains every line drawn, triangle, circle, and character. For example, if you copy a chart from Excel into Word, you can either paste it as a bitmap or as a metafile. Do you understand the difference between a drawing object and an image and know that Tecplot can produce either type. This seems like a very strange requirement. I don't think it will do what you're asking and there's no way to make it.
